As 2022 draws to a close (eek!), we’re taking a look at some of the best musicals that have graced the West End this year that aren’t going to be in London for much longer! Take a look below at some of the best musicals in London that you shouldn’t miss!
Come From Away
Shortly after opening in 2019, Come From Away won Mastercard Best New Musical at the 2019 Olivier Awards – a clear stamp that it’s one of the best musicals in London. The poignant, funny and incredibly human musical tells the true story of the 7,000 air passengers grounded in Canada after 9/11 and the small community of Gander who opened their lives and their homes to help complete strangers. The show runs at 1 hour 40 minutes with no interval so you get fully immersed into the story and come out with a whole new faith in humanity! The show closes at the Phoenix Theatre on Saturday 7 January (and their farewell performance sold out immediately!) so book now to make sure you see one of the most life-changing theatre shows around before it goes.
& Juliet
& Juliet is one of the best musicals for people who don’t know musicals. Full of nineties and noughties pop hits from legendary Max Martin, it’s the perfect show to take your friends, family or partner who’ll never come to the theatre with you. With songs like …Baby One More Time, Since U Been Gone, Roar, It’s My Life, I Want It That Way, and Can’t Stop the Feeling!, you’ll be tapping your feet the whole way through.
It’ll no longer live at the Shaftesbury Theatre come 25 March, but the show did recently announce that they’ll be going on tour around the UK, with details to be announced so keep your eyes peeled!
Get Up Stand Up! The Bob Marley Musical
This jukebox musical based on the life and works of Bob Marley was also in the running to be crowned the best musical in London in the 2022 Olivier Awards, gaining a coveted nomination in the new musicals category. The show features innovative choreography and brand new orchestrations of all your favourite Bob Marley hits plus some you might not know.
You’ll all have heard his songs, but how much do you really know about Bob Marley the man? Your last chance to see the story live on stage at the Lyrics Theatre is Sunday 8 January, so get booking!
Mary Poppins
Practically Perfect In Every Way, Mary Poppins has been delighting audiences at the Prince Edward Theatre for more than three years. It’s one of those theatre shows that just ticks all the boxes – a beloved childhood classic, filled with colourful costumes, impressive ensemble dance numbers and spectacular visual tricks (no spoilers, but we still don’t know how the magical bag trick is done!).
It’s also one of the best musicals in London to take the whole family to – whether you’re 8 or 88, it’ll charm you from start to finish and it’s only running until Sunday 8 January so it’s your last chance to witness the magic of the world’s favourite nanny live on stage.
