Hugh Dennis, Lesley Garrett and John Marquez will play a cast of thousands between them in a new festive comedy, The Messiah, at The Other Palace.
Marking Dennis’ return to the stage for the first time in over 20 years, as well as Garrett’s comedy play debut, The Messiah is set to be the funniest and most magical nativity around this winter – it’s from the pen of Patrick Barlow, who wrote the Olivier Award-winning The 39 Steps.
The show will tour the UK this Autumn before arriving in Victoria to play for five festive fun weeks from Monday 3 December 2018 – Sunday 6 January 2019.
The Messiah sees a travelling theatre troupe of two actors and an opera singer arrive on camel to masterfully enact the greatest story ever told. Through the absurdly talented Maurice Rose (Hugh Dennis), the alarmingly unpredictable Ronald Bream RAC (John Marquez), and the distinguished diva Mrs Doreen Small (Lesley Garrett), this hilarious Christmas comedy will conjure up the sublime, the ridiculous and the truly angelic.
Hugh Dennis is well loved for his regular roles on BBC shows Mock The Week and Outnumbered, while Lesley Garrett has been one of Britain’s best-known sopranos for over 30 years. John Marquez is best known for his role as PC Joe Penhale in the hit ITV Comedy series, Doc Martin.
Tackling roles as varied as Joseph, Mary, Herod – and an ox – the three stars of the The Messiah are set to weave visual invention with a hint of the divine.
