Double Olivier Award-winner Tracie Bennett and Dancing On Ice judge Jason Gardiner will lead the cast of Ruthless! The Musical this Spring.
The comic camp killer classic, which has been playing Off-Broadway over the past 25 years, makes its UK premiere at the Arts Theatre from 16 March. Bennett (Follies, National Theatre; Hairspray, West End) will portray Lita, with Australian performer Gardiner completing an “all female” cast of comic characters as Sylvia St. Croix.
They are joined in Ruthless! The Musical by Harriet Thorpe (Fleur in Absolutely Fabulous) as Myrna Thorn, along with Lara Denning (The Secret Diary Of Adrian Mole Aged 13 3/4, Menier) as Louise Lerman/Eve, and Kim Maresca, who reprises her Off-Broadway role as Judy Denmark.
Ruthless! The Musical tells the story of the beautiful and talented 8 year old Tina Denmark who will do anything to play the lead in her school play… even if that means dealing with the competition. A killer cult classic subsequently unfolds.
The show famously spoofs Broadway musicals from Gypsy to Mame, as well as iconic films including The Bad Seed and All About Eve. The original run of Ruthless! even starred young performers such as Britney Spears and Natalie Portman.
This new production is directed by Richard Fitch (Funny Girl, UK tour), and runs until 23 June.
