Broadway star Tom McGowan is heading to London’s Emerald City this autumn, as he is set to enchant Wicked’s audiences as Oz’s new Wizard from 21 September.
The American star, a familiar face from sitcoms including Frasier, Everybody Loves Raymond and The War At Home, has been playing the less than virtuous Oz-dweller in various North American productions since 2009 and has a host of Broadway credits to his name.
Speaking about making the transatlantic trip, McGowan said: “I am thrilled to be invited to make my West End stage debut in Wicked playing the role that has been such a huge and fulfilling part of my career… I look forward to meeting and working with the amazing London cast.”
That London cast includes current leads Emma Hatton and Savannah Stevenson, who play Elphaba and Glinda in the story of how the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good first met at college, and how the stories you know from The Wizard Of Oz might only be half the truth.
From 21 September, Hatton and Stevenson will be joined by newcomers Oliver Savile as Fiyero and Sean Kearns as Doctor Dillamond.
