Tom Chambers and Aled Jones will star in White Christmas when it receives its West End premiere at the Dominion Theatre this festive season.
The production will re-open the venue after its refurbishment, playing a limited season from 8 November (press night 12 November) to 3 January.
The story, which was made famous in the 1954 American musical film starring Bing Crosby, follows ex-army friends Bob Wallace and Phil Davis as they team up with two sisters and put on a show to save their former general’s remote Vermont ski lodge when it falls on hard times.
While the production marks Holby City and Waterloo Road star Chambers’ return to the London stage following his Olivier Award nominated performance in Top Hat, Jones, who is best known for providing the vocals for The Snowman’s hit song Walking In The Air, will make his West End musical theatre debut in the show.
Talking about his forthcoming performance, Jones said he was “absolutely delighted” to be making his debut in such a well-known musical, while Chambers said: “It’ll be great to be back in the West End again, and at such a special time of year, performing in such an incredibly magical and iconic show.”
They will be joined in the cast by Coronation Street star Wendi Peters, Rachel Stanley, whose London theatre credits include Crazy For You at the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre and in the West End, The Bill’s Graham Cole and Louise Bowden, who returns to the West End following her performance in Singin’ In The Rain at the Palace Theatre.
Performed by a 17-piece orchestra, the musical features classic hits including Let Yourself Go, Sisters, Count Your Blessings, Blue Skies, Love You Didn’t Do Right By Me, How Deep Is The Ocean, I’ve Got My Love To Keep Me Warm and, of course, White Christmas.
Directed by Morgan Young with choreography by Randy Skinner, the production will be the first production to play at the Dominion Theatre since We Will Rock You, which has been housed in the venue for the past 12 years and closes on Saturday.
