Fans of Tintin can catch the comic book hero’s stage show prior to the West End at Richmond theatre this autumn, where Hergé’s Adventures Of Tintin runs from 23-27 October as part of a UK tour.
The production, directed by Rufus Norris (Festen, Cabaret), who also co-adapted the story with David Greig, first ran at the Barbican in 2005 and will receive its West End premiere at the Playhouse this Christmas.
Based on the book Tintin In Tibet, the stage show follows fearless reporter Tintin, his loyal dog Snowy and the curmudgeonly Captain Haddock as they battle to rescue their friend Chang, who is lost in the Himalayas following a plane crash. But time is running out and the Abominable Snowman is rumoured to be prowling the mountains…
Tintin was created by Hergé, the pen-name of Belgian cartoonist Georges Remi. The character first appeared in a children’s supplement to a Belgian newspaper in 1929, and the subsequent cartoon books became worldwide bestsellers.
To accompany the show’s stay at Richmond, on Saturday 27 October, the theatre is holding a music and drama workshop for ages 8-11 where participants can join members of the company on stage for a morning of activities based on the show. For more information visit www.richmondtheatre.net.
