Great news for lovers of rock, roll and sequins as Tina – The Tina Turner Musical has been extended at the Aldwych Theatre until June 2020, with over 200,000 new tickets being released today.

Presented in association with the Queen of Rock ‘n’ Roll herself, this electric production follows the ups and downs of Tina Turner’s rise to fame from small town Tennessee all the way to the biggest stages around the world. Featuring all your favourite hits, Tina – The Tina Turner Musical tells the story of a woman determined to not to bow down to the social constraints of her age, her gender and her race when doors are shut in her face.

The musical opened at the Aldwych Theatre in April 2018 and shot to immediate success: the production and its cast were nominated for several Olivier Awards this year, including Best New Musical. As well as an extended run in London, the prodction has has set its sights on international expansion, opening recently in Hamburg, Germany and with plans to open on Broadway later this year.

Aisha Jawando will takeover the lead role of Tina Turner in late September as current lead Nkeki Obi-Melekwe joins the same production over on Broadway. Tina Turner herself sings Aisha’s praises saying:

“I first met Aisha during early rehearsals for our show. She was in our original West End Company playing my sister Alline and I loved her performance.

“It has been special to watch her journey with us and see the development of her extraordinary talent. I am so pleased that Aisha will now lead our company through its next chapter here in London.”

The children’s cast will also be changing around in this newly announced extension, with Miah Hasselbaink, Athea Andi and Ayani Lingibe-Ajavon sharing the role of Young Anna Mae; Mimi Etete-Edge, Perola Da Cunha and Jasmine Djazel sharing the role Young Alline; and Cameron Mukasa-Brown, Theo Lee and Romell Barrocks-Bedeau sharing the role of Young Craig.

Written by Olivier Award-Winning playwright Katori Hall, Tina – the Tina Tuner Musical plucks at guitar strings and heartstrings alike. An empowering and emotional tale of one woman’s talent, heartbreak and fight for success, this iconic production is not to be missed.
