Matilda The Musical’s Tim Minchin will lead the line-up for the first in a series of Variety Nights staged at The Old Vic as part of Artistic Director Matthew Warchus’ inaugural season.
The Australian musician and comedian, who worked with Warchus on the Royal Shakespeare Company’s seven-time Olivier Award-winning hit, will be joined by magician Dynamo, comedian Mark Watson and the Tredegar Town Band for the event on 15 November. Further acts are still to be announced.
Staged on Sundays, The Old Vic Variety Nights embrace the venue’s historic roots in music, dance and vaudeville, reinvigorating the much-loved format with a contemporary twist and bringing established names in music, magic and comedy to The Old Vic’s stage.
Talking about the events, Warchus said: “Three of my favourite things are music, magic and comedy, hence my eagerness to introduce a series of Old Vic Variety Nights. We’re looking forward to seeing The Old Vic lit up on a Sunday night welcoming all kinds of audiences, both old friends and newcomers, to see famous faces mixed with new talent in evenings of laughter, fun and really great entertainment.”
The Old Vic Variety Nights join an eclectic 2015/16 season for the Waterloo venue. Currently home to Eugene O’Neill’s expressionist classic The Hairy Ape, The Old Vic will soon welcome Dr Seuss’ The Lorax for the festive season, with productions of The Master Builder, The Caretaker and a dance version of The Strange Case Of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde to follow in the new year.
If you book to see any of The Old Vic’s upcoming productions through us before 26 November, you’ll be entered into our prize draw to win a trip to Broadway.
