If you spot a large, stripey, feline quadrupedal prowling in the West End this summer, don’t be alarmed: he’s only here for the tea, sandwiches, buns, and maybe a few biscuits. You’ve guessed it: the smash-hit family show The Tiger Who Came To Tea is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary on stage with a very special Piccadilly Theatre season.
The magical Olivier Award-nominated show, based on the classic children’s tale of a friendly, big (and ravenous) cat by Judith Kerr, will begin performances on Thursday 28 June, just in time for the school holidays. It will play until Sunday 9 September.
Adapted and directed by David Wood, The Tiger Who Came To Tea sees Sophie and her Mummy welcome the hungry Tiger to tea. But he soon gobbles all the sandwiches, buns, biscuits and more – he even drinks all the water in the tap! What will Sophie’s Daddy say when he gets home?
A musical slice of teatime mayhem awaits families who come along, with sing-a-long songs and oodles of magical, interactive fun. The show is recommended for children ages three and up, and is set to prove the perfect introduction to theatre for youngsters.

Amongst adapter Wood’s other plays and musicals for children are the Olivier Award winning Goodnight Mister Tom, as well as The Gingerbread Man, Guess How Much I Love You, and eight Roald Dahl adaptations including West End hits The BFG, The Witches and George’s Marvellous Medicine.
The Tiger Who Came To Tea is based on Kerr’s 1968 book, which has continually proved a perennial favourite over several generations.
