Over 1,700 people attended the Society of London Theatre’s (SOLT) first ever West End Family Fun Day at the Royal Festival Hall yesterday, marking a huge success for the free family event.
Children of all ages were given the opportunity to dance with the English National Ballet, join in on a vocal workshop led by Mary King and learn moves from West End shows Oliver! and Stomp with choreographers and performers from the shows taking them through the steps.
Presented by CBBC’s Michael Absolom, the day also included performances from Swan Lake and Thriller Live, offering a taste of just a few of the family friendly shows on offer in London’s Theatreland.
Commenting on the event, Richard Pulford, Chief Executive of SOLT, said “Yesterday’s event was a great success. The Society of London Theatre was delighted to be working again with the Royal Festival Hall. It was fantastic to see so many families enjoying themselves, celebrating London theatre. With over 1,700 people in attendance, it bodes well for an exciting Kids Week later this year.”
West End Family Fun Day took place as part of National Family Week, a new national initiative to celebrate family life. Featuring a jam-packed schedule of events, activities and competitions, the celebration continues across the country until 31 May. The event also offered families a taste of Kids Week, SOLT’s annual event, now in its 12th year, which offers children aged 5-16 years old the opportunity to see hit shows in London for free. Taking place later this summer between 14 and 28 August, more information can be found on the Kids Week website.
