Heathers is keeping it FRESH! The musical based on the cult classic film of the same name has been driving the audience wild during its sold-out run at The Other Palace Theatre. But with all art, there’s always room for change and the crowd-pleaser has received a little touch-up ahead of its West End transfer.
Today, the creative team behind the smash-hit show has announced that a brand-new song has been added along with multiple reworkings of the script. Creators Laurence O’Keefe and Kevin Murphy, alongside director Andy Fickman, have worked extensively on the show during its European premiere to craft it into an absolute masterpiece – as if it wasn’t one already. The new song, I Say No, was written for the leading lady, Veronica, played by West End favourite, Carrie Hope Fletcher. The new song – and script alterations – were put into action during the final week of performances at The Other Palace Theatre, giving the lucky audience a sneak peek before its West End debut.
The dark comedy tells the story of Veronica Sawyer, one of the most popular girls in her high school. But even with her popularity, Veronica feels unfulfilled and ostracised, mainly due to her three “best friends”, the Heathers. When a new boy joins her class, Veronica decides to break free from the pack with disastrous consequences.
Heathers The Musical originally came to London in 2017 for five work-in-progress shows. The eight-week run at The Other Palace Theatre quickly followed and set box office records for the theatre. Now, it’s headed to the Theatre Royal Haymarket for 12 weeks only giving all those sad souls who missed tickets last time a chance to see the hit musical.
Also returning to the cast along with Carrie will be the school’s reigning ‘It Girls’ – The Heathers: Jodie Steele (Chandler), T’Shan Williams (Duke) and Sophie Isaacs (McNamara). Jamie Muscato will continue his role as rebellious transfer student Jason Dean (JD). Other returning actors include Chris Chung (Kurt Kelly), Dominic Anderson (Ram Sweeney), Jenny O’Leary (Martha Dunnstock), Rebecca Lock (Ms. Flemming), Jon Boydon (Kurt’s Dad), Alex James Hatton (Officer Milner), Charlotte Jaconelli (Stoner Chick), Lauren Drew (New Wave Girl), Olivia Moore (Young Rerepublicanette), and Sergio Pasquariello (Officer McCord).
They will be welcoming Hugh Maynard (Ram’s Dad), John Lumsen (Hipster Dork) and Merryl Ansah (Drama Cub Drama Queen) to the cast for the West End premiere.
