Come Dancing, the new musical by The Kinks frontman Ray Davies, has extended its run at Theatre Royal Stratford East by two weeks to 8 November.
Kerry Michael, Artistic Director of the East London venue and director of Come Dancing, commented: “The decision to extend comes in direct response to suggestions and requests from patrons seeking to book beyond 25 October 2008 to see the show. Our audiences have so far been outstanding and it is wonderful how Come Dancing, an original British musical set in East London, has managed to capture the imagination of not only a local audience but also the wider national and international audience as well.”
Legendary British rock band The Kinks had a plethora of hits including Waterloo Sunset, Lola, Sunday Afternoon and You Really Got Me. An expansion of the band’s 1983 single of the same name, new musical Come Dancing is a coming of age tale set in the heady times of the late 1950s Ilford Palais. The show features three Kinks numbers along with some 20 new songs written by Davies, who also co-wrote the book with Paul Sirett.
The multi-talented Davies also stars in the musical as the narrator, in a cast that includes Gemma Salter, Delroy Atkinson and Alasdair Harvey.
