The Prince Of Egypt and Amélie musicals have been nominated for the 2021 Grammy Award in the ‘Best Musical Theatre Album’ category. The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards ceremony will be held on 31 January, 2021 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and we can’t wait to see who will be crowned as the winner.
The Prince Of Egypt, the hugely popular new musical based on the classic DreamWorks Animation film, opened at the Dominion Theatre earlier this year and is due to return next year, pending Government guidelines.
The production’s acclaimed original cast recording was released on Ghostlight Records, and is available on CD, digital and streaming formats. The album is produced by Dominick Amendum and Stephen Schwartz, with Kurt Deutsch serving as Executive Producer.
With a cast and orchestra of almost 60 artists, this “massive new stage show” (Time Out) has music and lyrics by Grammy and Academy Award-winner Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Godspell), a book by Philip LaZebnik (Mulan, Pocahontas) and features 10 brand new songs written by Stephen Schwartz, together with 5 of his acclaimed songs from the DreamWorks Animation film (Deliver Us, All I Ever Wanted, Through Heaven’s Eyes, The Plagues and the Academy Award-winning When You Believe, which was a global hit for Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey as well as a UK and Ireland chart-topping winner’s single for The X-Factor).
Based on the five-time Academy Award-nominated film, the critically acclaimed Amélie The Musical first opened with a sell-out season premiere at the Watermill in Newbury, before playing a limited festive season at The Other Palace last year.
This screen to stage adaption starring French-Canadian stage and screen star Audrey Brisson as Amélie Poulain, is beautifully written by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Guillaume Laurant, directed by Michael Fentiman, and features music by Hem’s Daniel Messé, lyrics by Nathan Tysen and Daniel Messé.
Andrew Lloyd Webber and Taylor Swift were also nominated for “Beautiful Ghost” from the big-screen adaptation of Cats under the ‘Music For Visual Media’ category.
