Something must be going right for the disastrous Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society (better known as Mischief Theatre) at the Duchess Theatre, as their riotous The Play That Goes Wrong marks its third West End birthday by extending until 30 September 2018.
The Olivier Award-winning Best New Comedy has released thousands of new tickets to mark the momentous – or, in the show’s own words, “miraculous” – occasion, which coincides with the announcement of a new UK tour from January 2018.
The Play That Goes Wrong continues to thrive in the West End with its hilariously chaotic slapstick comedy. The remarkable rags-to-riches story shows no signs of slowing down for a play which started its life at a London fringe venue, with only four paying customers at the first performance. Since then, it has played to an audience of over a million.
Having transferred to Broadway earlier in the year, this Autumn, The Play That Goes Wrong will be playing simultaneously in twelve countries.
The Play That Goes Wrong follows the antics of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, a hapless but enthusiastic bunch who are trying their very best to stage a production of a 1920s murder mystery. But it’s not quite as easy as it looks, and as the show’s title might suggest, everything that can go wrong… does.
