The Mousetrap Interviews: Mrs Boyle

Published 2 January 2014

In the latest in the series introducing the characters of the world’s longest running play, The Mousetrap, Angellica Bell meets the decidedly unimpressed Mrs Boyle.

Christmas, it would seem, has not been merry for Mrs Boyle. Nor has New Year been happy. I suspect that far from being the most wonderful time of the year, as Andy Williams would have us believe, the festive season has been as miserable as a long-running French revolutionary musical for the guest at Monkswell Manor.

As we find out during this interview, Mrs Boyle – no relation to Susan – is as grumpy as a pantomime dwarf and harder to please than Paul Hollywood in a world without flour. Could anything make her snowed-in stay at the newly opened guesthouse any worse? I suspect so.

Mrs Boyle is just one of the guests caught up in the life-endangering shenanigans in Agatha Christie’s long-running thriller that has kept audiences in London’s West End guessing about the identity of the murderer since 1952.

You can watch the interview at the top of the page. Next week we’ll be introduced to Major Metcalf.
