The Caravan parks up at the Royal Court

Published 23 January 2009

The Royal Court has announced it will stage Look Left Look Right’s unique production The Caravan, which will take place in a real caravan parked in the middle of the affluent, and usually more conventional, Sloane Square.

Running from 10 February, The Caravan tackles the consequences of the flooding in Britain that forced many families out of their homes and into temporary accommodation in 2007. One year on, over 2,200 households were still living in caravans and experiencing mixed reactions towards their situation. The play explores how some families dealt with the situation with laughter and camaraderie and others anger and tears.

Using interviews conducted by Look Left Look Right over several months, the actors re-enact, word for word, the recordings, alongside visual and audio footage which is played inside the caravan. After the performance, the audience will be given the opportunity to read transcripts or listen to recordings from the original interviews.

Based on an original concept by Mimi Poskitt, The Caravan was first performed at the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it won a Fringe First Award. With an audience capacity of just eight, the cast of The Caravan includes Rachel Dale and Brett Sadie, both of whom appeared in the original production.

The Caravan runs from 10 until 28 February.
