Chickenshed theatre’s forthcoming show, The Attraction, will be performed for the first time under the company’s own roof since it premiered 19 years ago.
Originally performed in 1990 at the Shaw theatre before Chickenshed opened its own venue in 1994, The Attraction promises to be a powerful tale of life, love and loss. Described as a modern opera for ordinary people, it tells the story of a gypsy community, where legends and songs fill the air. Maya is set to marry the important Gypsy King Hal, and complete her family with her young son Max. But the community is thrown into turmoil when an unexpected event threatens their whole existence. Tragedy turns love into guilt and respect into revenge.
The Attraction features music and dance inspired by the rich culture of the eclectic and colourful community at the centre of the story. Uniquely staged, the audience will be seated at tables and have the option to book a two course meal.
Chickenshed is offering audience members a chance to further explore the themes of the production with two pre-show talks taking place on 25 March and 1 April. The theatre also plans to offer the public a chance to attend an open rehearsal and experience first-hand Chickenshed’s creative process.
