In today’s Tell Us In 10, we’re talking to Neal Foster who plays Rex in Horrible Histories: Barmy Britain – Part Five playing at the Apollo Theatre from 29 July – 28 August.
Horrible Histories is one of Britain’s favourite history shows and this summer, it’s back with a new production packed with crazy new characters and rude new rulers from Britain’s barmy past. It’s history with all the nasty, gruesome bits left in and because of that…kids will love it!

Getting to dress up in wonderful costumes and pretending to be much tougher than I really am!

It’s got funny, silly, gory, weird and often unbelievable stories about the most amazing and awful people that have ever lived and it’s all true!
5. I think Kids Week is a great initiative because…
I’ve always believed theatre shouldn’t be something people have to think twice about experiencing, so making theatre affordable for all families is the most important thing the West End can do.
6. My earliest memories of theatre are…
I remember seeing Toad of Toad Hall at the Birmingham Rep when I was about five and my Mum told me Judi Dench was in the show. I don’t remember seeing her in it but I’m sure she was very good!

7. I always knew/didn’t know I wanted to work in theatre…
When I was eight years old I told my English teacher, Mrs Beard, that I was going to be an actor. Three years later I was acting in a school play pretending to be a pushy parent and I experienced that glorious feeling as a child when you make an audience of adults laugh – it’s one of the most powerful and exhilarating feelings possible for a child – and making people laugh is what I now do for a living.
8. The one thing I wish I could tell my younger self is…
Don’t worry about being slim. Whatever makes you different is going to be useful when you become an actor.
9. In my spare time I like to…
Walk in the countryside for hours and hours – I love getting away from the city to spend time with nature.

10. If I could have a superpower for a day, I would choose…
To read the minds of animals – then I’d wander around the fields listening to what the birds, mice, horses and cows were all thinking about.
