The St James Theatre’s acclaimed revival of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Don Black’s classic one-woman show Tell Me On A Sunday has extended its West End run at the Duchess Theatre.
Starring Marti Webb, who originated the role when the New York-set musical tale premiered in 1982, Tell Me On A Sunday has added a week to its run and will now play from 18 February to 8 March.
The transfer follows a string of four star reviews for its limited run at the St James Theatre in January. The Telegraph described the short and sweet offering as “a golden hour,” while The Independent praised Webb for returning to the role, commenting that her “implied experience endows the songs in this consistently excellent score with a knowing resignation”.
The rarely performed piece tells the story of one woman’s journey to success and romance in the Big Apple and features a host of iconic songs including It’s Not The End Of The World (If I Lose Him) and the title track Tell Me On A Sunday.
Tell Me On A Sunday was written for Webb. The musical theatre star had a hit single with one of the show’s most popular songs, Take That Look Off Your Face, and even performed the role for a TV special.
The show will be preceded at the Duchess Theatre by another West End one-woman transfer, the Royal Court Theatre’s Beckett trilogy Not I, Footfalls, Rockaby.
