Imogen Stubbs, Anna Calder-Marshall, Anna Carteret and Roger Evans are set to star in the first production in the Donmar Trafalgar season this autumn.
The quartet will appear in Tim Price’s Salt, Root And Roe which opens at Trafalgar Studios 2 on 14 November (previews from 10 November). The production will be directed by Hamish Pirie, a past Resident Assistant Director at the Donmar Warehouse.
Price’s play tells the story of devoted twins Iola and Anest. Ageing fast, and with the time they have together more fragile by the day, they arrive at a desperate decision. Word of this reaches Anest’s daughter Menna, who rushes to her long abandoned childhood home where her own ideas of love and compromise are tested to the limit.
Stubbs, who will play daughter Menna, was last seen on the London stage in Little Eyolf at the Jermyn Street theatre. A successful actress on stage and screen, her other London stage credits include Alphabetical Order at the Hampstead theatre and Hamlet at the Old Vic, while her extensive film credits include Twelfth Night, Sense And Sensibility, Jack And Sarah, Pin For Butterfly and True Colours.
Stubbs is also well known for her television work which includes appearances in series Injustice, New Tricks, Blind Ambition, Big Kids and After The Dance.
The devoted twins will be played by Calder-Marshall and Carteret. Both have previously worked with the Donmar Warehouse; Calder-Marshall appearing in A Lie Of The Mind and Carteret in The Family Reunion.
Calder-Marshall’s other London stage credits include Love at the Lyric Hammersmith, A Kind Of Alaska at the Gate theatre and Comfort Me With Apples at Hampstead theatre.
Carteret has appeared in Burnt By The Sun and Never So Good at the National Theatre, Tom And Vic at the Almeida theatre and Absolutely Perhaps! at the Wyndham’s theatre.
Evans, who plays Gareth, was most recently seen on the London stage in Fast Labour at Hampstead theatre. His films include Hunky Dory, Atonement, Human Traffic and The Bourne Identity.
The Donmar Trafalgar season offers past Resident Assistant Directors at the Donmar Warehouse the opportunity to showcase their work in the West End. Now in its second year, Salt, Root And Roe is followed by Abbey Wright’s production of Dublin Carol and Paul Hart’s Huis Clos.
