Following last year’s successful festive run, every child’s favourite twiggy adventurer Stick Man will return to the Leicester Square theatre for a seven week season this winter.
Playing from 17 November to 6 January, Scamp Theatre’s show is adapted from hit children’s picture book collaborators Julian Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s popular tale.
Starring Joseph Carey, Mark Kane and Emily Pollet, Stick Man tells the story of what happens when the woody title character goes out for a jog but is dramatically mistaken for an ordinary stick.
After being pounced on by a playful dog, he is swept far away, being used for all sorts of things: from a flag mast to a cricket bat, a snowman’s arm to firewood (well almost!). As his adventure unfolds, Stick Man – lost and alone – wonders if he will ever get back to the family tree.
Director Sally Cookson’s production takes audiences through all the seasons, culminating in a joyful Christmas. Suitable for children aged three and older, three actors and a one-man-band combine with a host of colourful characters and animals to magically re-tell Stick Man’s adventures in this comical family treat.
This is not the only festive offering from Waterstone’s Children’s Laureate Donaldson and acclaimed illustrator Scheffler’s work this winter, with the storytelling team’s The Gruffalo playing at artsdepot from 8 December to 6 January and Room On The Broom flying into the West End for a run at the Lyric theatre from 21 November to 13 January.
