Stewart Clarke, Zoë Rainey and Laura Pitt-Pulford will star in a new musical adaptation of The Return Of The Soldier when it receives its world premiere at the Jermyn Street Theatre next month.

The intimate chamber musical, which is based on Rebecca West’s World War I-set novel, will play at the venue from 2 September (press night 4 September) to 20 September.

Clarke, whose musical theatre credits include Ghost The Musical, Loserville and Cool Rider, will take on the role of Captain Christopher Baldry in the production that charts the story of the shell shocked soldier as he returns from the trenches of the Great War.

He is joined by Rainey as Kitty Baldry and Pitt-Pulford as Margaret Grey. Pitt-Pulford is currently starring in Stephen Sondheim’s Marry Me A Little at the St James Studio, while Rainey returns to the London stage following performances in Oh What A Lovely War at the Theatre Royal Stratford East and Parade at the Donmar Warehouse.

The musical, which features a book and lyrics by Tim Sanders, and music by Charles Miller, will be directed by Charlotte Westenra and is billed as “an eloquent treatise on the nature of love, truth, memory and loss”.
