Legendary musical theatre composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim will discuss his work at the National Theatre ahead of the venue’s new dazzling production of Follies.
The event will see Sondheim talk about the musical with Jeremy Sams on Tuesday 22 August at 6pm in the Dorfman Theatre. With demand for the event set to be exceptionally high, tickets for the 45-minute event will be allocated via ballot, which opened at mid-day today and closes at mid-day tomorrow (Wednesday 16 August).
Winners will be notified via email, and afforded the opportunity to purchase tickets for £15, £7.50 or £5.
Sondheim’s acclaimed raft of work includes Follies, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Company, Sweeney Todd, A Little Night Music, Sunday In The Park With George, Into the Woods and West Side Story.
Featuring a cast of 37 and an orchestra of 21, the National’s forthcoming production of Follies is directed by Dominic Cooke (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom) and stars Tracie Bennett, Janie Dee and Imelda Staunton as the magnificent titular trio. Gathering in the condemned Weissman Theatre the night before its demolition, its former stars have a few drinks, sing a few songs – and lie about their lives.
