Stars line-up for Vortex

Published 12 December 2012

Award-winning actors Kerry Fox, David Dawson and James Dreyfus will star in Noël Coward’s explosive drama The Vortex at the Rose Theatre Kingston next year.

Playing from 7 February to 2 March, New Zealand actress Fox will return to the London stage following her 2009 performance in Speaking In Tongues at the Duke of York’s theatre to play the flamboyant Florence Lancaster.

Best known for her screen work, which includes An Angel At My Table, Shallow Grave, Bright Star and Intimacy, Fox will lead the production about 1920s decadence alongside Olivier Award nominee David Dawson as her onstage drug-addicted son.

Nominated in 2008 for his role in The Life And Adventures Of Nicholas Nickleby at the Gielgud theatre, Dawson has since appeared in Comedians at the Lyric Hammersmith and starred in television dramas Parade’s End and The Mystery Of Edwin Drood.

Olivier Award-winning actor Dreyfus will play Pauncefort Quentin in the production. Most recently seen in Breakfast At Tiffany’s and Donkey’s Years in the West End, Dreyfus has also starred in West End musicals Cabaret, The Producers and Lady In The Dark, the latter of which earning him his first Olivier Award. Off stage the actor is well-known for his comedy roles in Gimme Gimme Gimme and The Thin Blue Line, as well as more recent dramas Whitechapel and Double Time.

The Vortex, which famously shocked audiences when it premiered in 1924 due to its disturbing look at drug abuse, emotional blackmail and shattered relationships, will be directed by the venue’s Artistic Director, Stephen Unwin.
