Star gazing: The famous faces on the West End stage this winter

Fancy being in the same room as your fave celeb? Short of scoping out their social media feed and behaving in a slightly unlawful manner, the best way of doing it is seeing a West End show. And luckily, there are plenty of famous faces on the London stage at the moment.

True West

Kit Harington and Johnny Flynn in True West

As the world eagerly awaits the concluding season of Game Of Thrones, one of its main protagonists is on the West End entertaining the masses. Kit Harington has returned to the West End to star in the UK premiere of Sam Shepard’s True West. Joining him will be Johnny Flynn – the star of Netflix’s Love Sick and the acclaimed film Beast. See the starry pair play warring brothers in this blistering comedy that was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize For Drama in 1983.

You want star power? Well, Company has your name all over it. The who’s who of stage and screen have collided in this Stephen Sondheim classic which has had a bit of a twist from the original. See Mel Giedroyc, Jonathan Bailey, Richard Fleeshman, George Blagden, and the legendary Patti LuPone, along with some other familiar faces in this gender-swapped rendition of the much-loved musical.

Pinter At The Pinter

The Pinter At The Pinter season has been a flood of entertainment giants since it opened in September. Currently on is Pinter Three – starring Lee Evans, Tamsin Greig, Keith Allen, Tom Edden and Meera Syal – and Pinter Four – starring Jessica Barden and Janie Dee – are currently playing at the Harold Pinter Theatre. Pinter Five, Pinter Six and Pinter Seven are yet to which means these celebs are on the potential watch list, too: Danny Dyer, Martin Freeman, Rupert Graves, Jane Horrocks, Nicholas Woodesen, John Simm, Gary Kemp, Ron Cook, Phil Davis, Celia Imrie, and Tracy-Ann Oberman.

Don Quixote

TV funnyman Rufus Hound and Shameless star David Threlfall are bringing you some much-needed LOLz in RSC’s Don Quixote. The hilarious duo is telling the timeless tale of a deluded knight on a quest for chivalry with gags and fourth-wall breaking throughout.

Snow White

This year’s big panto at the London Palladium has so many stars, it’ll practically blind you. Dawn French, Julian Clary, Paul Zerdin, Nigel Havers, Gary Wilmot, Danielle Hope, Charlie Stemp, and even Strictly’s Vincent and Flavia will be treading the boards. Last year’s London Palladium panto, Dick Whittington, won the Best Family And Entertainment Olivier Award so, as this is produced by the same team, you can expect a cracker this Christmas.

Rip It Up – The 60s

Harry Judd, Jay McGuiness, Aston Merrygold and Louis Smith will star in Rip It Up - The 60s

Boyband lovers, assemble! This is the biggest pop mash-up since McFly and Buster became McBusted. Speaking of which, Busted’s drummer, Harry Judd, has joined forces with JLS’ Aston Merrygold, The Wanted’s Jay McGuiness and Olympic gymnast Louis Smith to create the ultimate boyband for this unique show. Through song, dance, fashion and showmanship, the quartet will bring the titular decade to life!

The Messiah

Hugh Dennis, Lesley Garrett & John Marquez will star in The Messiah

What is Christmas without TV comedians on stage? Hugh Dennis is headed to The Other Palace Theatre for what’s been billed as the funniest and most magical nativity you’ll see this winter. The Messiah tells the story of three masterful performers travelling the country to enact the greatest story ever told. Starring alongside Hugh will be Soprano Lesley Garrett and Doc Martin star John Marquez.

9 To 5

Natalie McQueen, Louise Redknapp, Amber Davies and Brian Conley will star in 9 To 5

So we’ve covered the boybands… what about the girl groups? Eternal’s Lousie Redknapp (nee Nerding) is coming to the West End to appear in Dolly Parton’s 9 To 5. Accompanying her will be Love Island winner Amber Davis, Natalie McQueen, and Brian Conley. And of course, though she won’t physically be there, you’ll have the incredible songs of Dolly Parton.

The Price

David Suchet and Brendan Coyle will be starring in Arthur Miller’s familial drama The Price when it transfers to the West End in February. The TV superstars are reviving their roles from the Theatre Royal Bath run of this production, which played to huge audience and critical praise.

Chicago

During its current run at the Phoenix Theatre, Chicago has had a slew of stars give you the razzle-dazzle and the current cast is no exception. RuPaul’s Drag Race and YouTube sensation Todrick Hall has just taken on the role of Billy Flynn. See the Broadway star give it all that jazz before the show closes in January.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie
