Performers of the Queers monologue series, curated by Mark Gatiss at The Old Vic, have been announced, with Russell Tovey, Gemma Whelan and Ian Gelder amongst them.
Celebrating some of the most pertinent moments of recent British gay male history, the full line-up sees Mark Gatiss’ The Man On The Platform performed by Jack Derges, Jackie Clune’s The Perfect Gentleman performed by Whelan, Matthew Baldwin’s I Miss The War performed by Gelder, and Gareth McLean’s Something Borrowed performed by Mark Bonnar, all on Friday 28 July.
On Monday 31 July, Sara Crowe will perform Jon Bradfield’s Missing Alice, Kadiff Kirwan will perform Keith Jarrett’s Safest Spot In Town, Fionn Whitehead will perform A Grand Day Out by Michael Dennis, and Tovey will perform Brian Fillis’ More Anger.
The eight-part monologue series will be directed by Mark Gatiss and by Old Vic Associate Director Max Webster and Baylis Director Joe Murphy, marking 50 years since the Sexual Offences Act of 1967 began the decriminalisation process for homosexuality between men.
Queers is produced in partnership with BBC Studios, Pacific Quay Productions. The monologues were filmed earlier in the year, directed by Mark Gatiss and featuring many of the cast who will be appearing on stage at The Old Vic, with these films being screened on BBC Four this summer.
Queers is part of The Old Vic’s One Voice series, which celebrates the rawest of theatre forms – a single voice on a stage without scenery.
