Around The World In 80 Days

St James Theatre goes Around The World

Jules Verne’s classic novel Around The World In 80 Days will be brought to life on stage at the St James Theatre this Christmas in a new production directed by Lucy Bailey.

Adapted by playwright and House Of Cards writer Laura Eason, Phileas Fogg’s epic global adventure will arrive at the Victoria venue, just a stone’s throw from where the protagonist’s journey begins at Pall Mall’s Reform Club, from 26 November.

Based on the beloved Victorian novel, Around The World In 80 Days follows the majestically mysterious and fabulously wealthy Mr Fogg as he sets off on a journey across continents after betting his life’s fortune that he can circumnavigate the globe in the 80 days of its title.

Bailey’s production will see an eight-strong cast play more than 100 characters in what is billed as a “High-spirited, imagination-filled escapade for all the family”. Casting for the show is still to be announced.

Talking about what audiences can expect from her staging of the much-loved tale, the Titus Andronicus director said: “I remember Jules Verne’s book as delightfully eccentric. This new stage version is off the wall, refreshingly unconventional, and celebrates our world – what could be better! It’s a chase movie, a love story, and a heroic quest all in one.”

Around The World In 80 Days will play until 16 January and opens at the St James Theatre following the world premiere of Stardust Road, a new musical featuring the much-loved music of American composer Howard “Hoagy” Carmichael.
