Somerset House has lined up four days of free family entertainment in its eighth annual Free Time long weekend, held from 15 to 18 August.
This year’s event is inspired by the world of contemporary circus, and offers performances, workshops, storytelling and creative activities in and around the Somerset House Courtyard.
Among the unusual sights to be seen in the outdoor space during the four days are a demonstration of juggling by Gandini Juggling, giant Slinkies, acrobatic hula hoop artists Hoop La La and a large sculptural installation inspired by the circus.
Children also have the chance to join in the creation of a giant circus drawing, make a costume to wear and create their very own (small) big top with miniature circus acts. Storytelling sessions and other activities will be held within Somerset House, and visitors during the Free Time weekend are also allowed free admission to the Courtauld Gallery with its collection of works by Cezanne.
Free Time is to be held from 11:00-18:00 each day. Most performances and activities are either continuous or repeated throughout the day. For more information and a full programme of events, visit www.somersethouse.org.uk/family/25.asp
