Spamalot returns to London

First Published 28 May 2012, Last Updated 28 May 2012

Monty Python’s Spamalot is to return to the West End this summer, when a host of famous faces will take to the stage of the Harold Pinter theatre for more shameless silliness.

Comedians Marcus Brigstocke and Jon Culshaw will lend their hilarity to the role of Arthur in original Python member Eric Idle and John Du Prez’s comedy musical, which plays at the venue from 24 July to 9 September.

The comedy duo will take it in turns to star alongside the theatre, TV and film legend Bonnie Langford as the Lady of the Lake and former EastEnder Todd Carty as the coconut-clapping Patsy in the shenanigan-filled show based on the classic film Monty Python And The Holy Grail.

The well known quartet will be joined by Robin Armstrong as Sir Bedevere, Rob Delaney as Sir Robin, Adam Ellis as Prince Herbert, Kit Orton as Sir Lancelot, Jon Robyns as Sir Galahad and the voice of Idle himself as God.

Monty Python’s Spamalot tells the legendary story of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table as they journey through England in search of the holy grail, encountering a host of hilarious characters including killer rabbits and flatulent Frenchmen.

Featuring a comedy score that includes He Is Not Dead Yet, Knights Of The Round Table, Find Your Grail and the well known Python favourite Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life, Christopher Luscombe’s production was described by the Daily Telegraph as “a simpler, shorter and zingier version, which in Christopher Luscombe’s fresh-as-paint production, recalls Monty Python’s roots in undergraduate review.”

Luscombe directs this production of the cow-tossing, Ni-saying show, which has toured the UK prior to its summer West End run. The mythical musical first ran at London’s Palace theatre, where it was directed by Mike Nichols, from 2006 to 2009.

Best known for his appearances on comedy quiz shows Have I Got News For You, Just A Minute and QI, Brigstocke will open and close the show’s season as the legendary British leader, with comedy impressionist and star of Dead Ringers Culshaw taking over between 2 August to 2 September.
