Sophie Thompson will play the dual role of Mrs Darling and Captain Hook when Peter Pan opens at the National Theatre later this year.
The Olivier Award-winning actress, who recently appeared as Miss Adelaide in the widely acclaimed Guys And Dolls, will star opposite Paul Hilton as Peter in the co-production with Bristol Old Vic that runs in London from 16 November.
Originally seen in Bristol in the Christmas of 2012, Sally Cookson’s inventive take on JM Barrie’s story tells the tale of the famous leader of the Lost Boys who, on a trip to London, loses his shadow. When Wendy helps him recover it, she and her brothers are taken on a fantastical trip to Neverland where they meet the terrible pirate Captain Hook.
Among the performers joining Thompson in the show are Hilton’s wonder.land co-star Lois Chimimba and original Matilda The Musical cast member Marc Antolin.
The National Theatre’s Peter Pan casting news was accompanied by casting for new Bryony Kimmings and Complicite musical A Pacifist’s Guide To The War On Cancer.
Like Peter Pan it features a pair of former wonder.land cast members, Hal Fowler and Golda Rosheuvel. They’re joined in the “all-singing, all-dancing examination of life with a cancer diagnosis” by Naana Agyei-Ampadu, Amy Booth-Steel, Amanda Hadingue and Gareth Snook.
A Pacifist’s Guide To The War On Cancer runs at the National from 14 October.
