The Stephen Sondheim revue Side By Side By Sondheim is to close at The Venue on 23 June, three weeks earlier than planned. It opened on 1 May.
Neil Laidlaw, who along with Melanie Herman produces the show, said: “Melanie and I are very disappointed that we have to close the show early as we are both enormously proud of the production. Despite the great reviews, we just have not been able to pull in the audiences we had hoped for and do seem to be a casualty of a generally very quiet May in the West End. We are however in talks to tour the production around the UK in the spring of next year, and looking at various different international dates including the US.”
Written by Ned Sherrin and originally produced in London in 1976, Side By Side By Sondheim features songs from many of the composer’s musicals such as West Side Story, Gypsy, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Company, Follies, Pacific Overtures and A Little Night Music.
This production is directed by Hannah Chissick, with musical staging by Adam Cooper, and is performed by a cast comprising Alasdair Harvey, Abbie Osman and Josie Walker.
