Children’s playwright David Wood and Guardian theatre critic Lyn Gardner will be among those discussing the participation of primary school children in theatre at a conference held at Soho theatre on 13 June.
Sponsored by John Lyon’s Charity, the conference, entitled Working With Young People through Theatre 2008, will allow representatives from the theatre industry to meet with arts practitioners, primary school teachers, members of government and other funders to share ideas on how theatre can be engagingly delivered to primary school children in the classroom to encourage creativity and a love of the arts.
The conference includes a keynote address by drama critic Michael Coveney and presentations by speakers including Tony Graham (Unicorn theatre), Jackie Skinner (National Theatre), Fiona Banks (Shakespeare’s Globe), James Blackman (Lyric Hammersmith), Suzanne Gorman (Soho theatre) and Jacqui O’Hanlon (Royal Shakespeare Company).
A panel discussion will be led by children’s playwright James Campbell, with contributions from Gardner, Wood and Vicky Ireland, former director of Polka theatre.
