Dominic Smith will lead the cast – and singing troupe – of Tarrell Alvin McCraney’s new play Choir Boy at the Royal Court this September.
Set in an all-black, American prep school, Smith will star as teacher Pharus, a man hell bent on being the best choir leader in the school’s 50 year history. But in a world built on rites and rituals, how will he conform to expectations and gain the respect he desperately needs?
Smith recently graduated from Mountview Theatre School and can currently be seen in the Lincoln Center Theater’s touring production of South Pacific, which marked his professional debut.
The actor will be joined in the cast by Khali Best, David Burke, Aron Julius, Eric Kofi Abrefa, Kwayedza Kureya and Gary McDonald.
Choir Boy, which will be directed by Dominic Cooke, will run from 4 September to 6 October in the theatre’s Jerwood Theatre Upstairs space and follows Ten Billion, the scientific theatrical lecture that opened earlier this week.
