Sky Arts shows NYT sex docu-drama

First Published 29 July 2015, Last Updated 29 July 2015

The National Youth Theatre’s development of new West End play Consensual will feature in docu-drama Generation Sext, to be screened on Sky Arts tonight at 22:00.

The 30-minute film, which blends testimony and documentary footage with dramatic scenes inspired by NYT workshops, aims to explore ideas of sexualisation and sexual consent among young people, focusing specifically on the rise of the sexting phenomena and its impact on today’s youth.

Commissioned as part of Sky Arts’ Sex Season, Generation Sext overlaps with the themes of Evan Placey’s new play Consensual, which uses the relationship between a PSHE teacher and her class to delve into themes of teenage testosterone, teacher-pupil relationships and the age of consent.

Generation Sext, which is directed by Pia Furtado, runs in rep with productions of Wuthering Heights and a Tom Stoppard-adapted schools version of The Merchant Of Venice at the Ambassadors Theatre this autumn. The rep season begins on 25 September and continues to the start of September.

The National Youth Theatre shows will play around the regular performance schedule of the long-term Ambassadors Theatre tenant, Stomp, the percussion-tastic, thumpalicious show that has been entertaining London audiences at the Ambassadors since 2007.

Stomp is one of many shows taking part in our annual family friendly promotion Kids Week, which offers one free child’s ticket with every full price adult ticket purchased for performances in August. You can book tickets or find more information at the Kids Week website.

You can also book tickets for performances of Stomp outside the Kids Week promotion with us here.
