Dan Castellaneta, known the world over as the voice of Homer Simpson, is to star in musical The Bicycle Men at the King’s Head from 8 November to 2 December (previews from 6 November).
Billed as “a sublimely silly musical with French overtones”, The Bicycle Men tells the story of hapless American tourist Steve (Castellaneta), who crashes his bike and encounters the twisted inhabitants of a sinister French village, including depraved marionettes, creepy bicycle repair men and other oddball characters.
As well as famously voicing Homer Simpson and many other characters from the US cartoon comedy The Simpsons for the past 20 years, winning three Emmy Awards, Castellaneta has often appeared on stage and screen in the US, making guest appearances in TV shows including LA Law, Friends, Entourage and NYPD Blue, plus films My Giant, The Pursuit Of Happyness and the forthcoming Super Hero. The Bicycle Men marks his British stage debut.
Castellaneta is joined in the cast by Joe Liss, Mark Nutter and John Rubano, who also co-wrote the show along with Dave Lewman, with music and lyrics by Nutter. Between them the team has writing credits including Third Rock From The Sun, Saturday Night Live, Spongebob Squarepants and the musical Wild Men!, plus numerous stage and television appearances in the US.
