Silver completes Nicole Kidman cast

First Published 27 July 2015, Last Updated 27 July 2015

Nicole Kidman has a complete cast for her London theatre return in Photograph 51 as Joshua Silver joins the previously announced Stephen Campbell Moore, Will Attenborough, Edward Bennett and Patrick Kennedy.

Silver will play scientist Ray Gosling opposite Kidman as Rosalind Franklin, the woman who cracked DNA, in the production that runs at the Noël Coward Theatre from 5 September.

Silver’s last London stage outing came in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s acclaimed and award-winning Wolf Hall/Bring Up The Bodies. His capital credits also include Blue Stockings at Shakespeare’s Globe and Trelawny Of The Wells at the Donmar Warehouse.

Photograph 51, which is directed by Michael Grandage, brings the Hollywood A-lister to the capital’s stage for the first time since her 1998 outing in David Hare’s The Blue Room, which inspired one of the most quoted phrases in theatre criticism history, Charles Spencer’s description of her performance as “pure theatrical Viagra”.

Written by Anna Ziegler, Photograph 51 tells the story of Franklin, who held the key to DNA in a photograph. In a race with rival scientists, who would be the first to see it and understand it?

Photograph 51 opens at the Noël Coward Theatre following the summer run of magical extravaganza Impossible. The illusion-packed jaw-dropper of a show began performances last weekend and faces the press later this week.
