Show goes on in West End

First Published 10 August 2011, Last Updated 10 August 2011

It was business as usual in the West End last night as all major shows went ahead. Today’s Kids Week launch at the Royal Festival Hall will also continue as planned.

While a number of fringe theatres – including the BAC, the Albany theatre, the Union theatre, the Arcola theatre, the Landor theatre and the Theatre Royal Stratford East – cancelled performances yesterday evening following reports of possible further unrest, all of Theatreland’s major venues entertained audiences as normal, living up to the old adage that the show must go on.

With the sun shining on London, young theatre fans will celebrate the launch of the 14th Kids Week in the West End today with a free event at the Royal Festival Hall. The afternoon of performances and activities for all the family will be opened by Marcus Brigstocke at 14:00 and will run until 17:00.

Hosted by Dancing On Ice winner and Dreamboats And Petticoats star Sam Attwater, the event will feature appearances from Mamma Mia!, Billy Elliot The Musical, Million Dollar Quartet, The Flying Karamazov Brothers, English National Ballet and The Tiger Who Came To Tea.
