Show Boat sails out of London

First Published 11 May 2016, Last Updated 11 May 2016

Sheffield Theatres’ hugely acclaimed production of Show Boat will end its run at the New London Theatre on 27 August. It had previously been booking to January 2017.

Speaking about the decision to end the West End run of the Daniel Evans-directed show early, producers David Ian, Bob Bartner and Norman Tulchin said:  “We could not be more proud of Daniel’s production of Show Boat. This first class cast and creative team have delivered an exceptional production and we are delighted that London audiences have had the opportunity to see this five star show.”

With a cast including Malcolm Sinclair, Chris Peluso, Gina Beck and Emmanuel Kojo, Show Boat tells a story spanning generations. Set at the turn of the 20th century in America’s Deep South, it spans 40 years of US history as it follows the lives and loves of families working on the Cotton Blossom, a show boat on the Mississippi River.

The Kern and Hammerstein musical received a wealth of five star reviews, both when it opened in Sheffield and on its London transfer. After its opening at the New London Theatre, Official London Theatre’s Charlotte Marshall described the production as a “glorious, joyful and flawlessly performed production that breathes new life into this exhilarating classic”.

The production following Show Boat into the New London Theatre is yet to be announced.
