Sharon Small will lead the cast of Luna Gale alongside Rachel Redford and Corey Johnson when the Rebecca Gilman play receives its UK premiere at the Hampstead Theatre in June.
The Inspector Lynley Mysteries actress, who is currently on stage in Carmen Disruption at the Almeida Theatre, will play Caroline Cox, a veteran social worker in Iowa who thinks she has a typical case on her hands when she encounters yet another teenage couple with all the classic problems.
Redford, last seen on the London stage in the Donmar Warehouse’s 2015 revival of Closer, will play one half of that couple, Karlie, alongside Alexander Arnold, who appeared in the Hampstead Theatre’s Olivier Award nominated hit Four Minutes Twelve Seconds, as Peter.
Directed by Michael Attenborough, who returns to the venue’s main stage for the first time since stepping down as Artistic Director in 1989, the production follows Caroline as she wades deeper into Peter and Karlie’s situation making a discovery that causes her to question everything she thinks is fundamental, both professionally and personally.
Small, Redford, Arnold and Johnson, who can currently be seen in Man And Superman at the National Theatre, are joined in the cast by Caroline Faber (RSC’s The Taming Of The Shrew), Ed Hughes (This House, NT) and Abigail Rose (NYT’s Romeo And Juliet).
A sharp exploration of our power to defy the odds and affect our future, Luna Gale plays at the Hampstead Theatre from 13 June to 18 July. It opens following the current run of Michael Frayn’s Matchbox Theatre, which closes on 6 June.
