School Of Rock – The Musical will begin its guitar-thrashing, drum-rolling London run at the New London Theatre from 24 October.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage adaptation of the hit Jack Black film, which is nominated for four Tony Awards following its West End debut, had been expected to open at the London Palladium. With the early closure of Show Boat, which had been booking until next spring but will now close in August, the New London Theatre became available.
School Of Rock The Musical follows the story of Dewey Finn, a down-on-his-luck wannabe rock star who finds himself posing as a substitute teacher at a prestigious prep school. When he stumbles across his students’ musical talents, he does the obvious thing and shapes them into a rock group.
No casting has been announced for the production, though a nationwide search is currently underway to find three teams of 13 young performers to rock the roof off the New London each night.
Public booking for School Of Rock The Musical opens on Wednesday 25 May for performances to 12 February.
