Savoy swoons over Dreamboats this summer

First Published 18 June 2009, Last Updated 18 June 2009

Touring musical Dreamboats And Petticoats is to enjoy a summer season in the West End when it comes to the Savoy theatre on 22 July (press night 27 July).

Written by Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, known for their writing credits on television sitcoms Goodnight Sweetheart, Birds Of A Feather and The New Statesman, Dreamboats And Petticoats is inspired by the best-selling compilation album of the same name and its sequel, which featured classic tracks from the 1960s.

The musical fashions an original story around these hits which centres on young musicians Norman and Bobby, who, in 1961, compete to win a national song writing competition and, more importantly, the attention of the gorgeous Sue. But when Bobby discovers that shy Laura is no slouch on the piano, love and rock ‘n’ roll fame beckon.

The soundtrack for Dreamboats And Petticoats features a plethora of hits from the era including Let’s Dance, Bobby’s Girl, Only Sixteen, Runaround Sue, Great Pretender and C’mon Everybody.

The cast includes X-Factor finalist Scott Bruton, Emmerdale’s Ben Freeman, Hollyoaks’s Jennifer Biddall, Birds Of A Feather’s David Cardy and newcomers Daisy Wood-Davis and A J Dean.

Dreamboats And Petticoats is booking at the Savoy theatre until 12 September and follows Carousel, which ends it run on 20 June. Legally Blonde The Musical is already scheduled to take up residence at the Savoy on 5 December.
