Smack The Pony star Sarah Alexander will make her first major London stage appearance next month leading Out of Joint’s forthcoming series of short political satires, A View From Islington North, at the Arts Theatre.
The well-known Coupling and Armstrong And Miller actor will be joined in the company by fellow television regulars including EastEnders’ Ann Mitchell and Steve John Shepherd, A Touch Of Frost’s Bruce Alexander and Midsomer Murders’ Jane Wymark.
The company will perform a series of short plays by prolific playwrights including David Hare, Caryl Churchill, Stella Feehily, Mark Ravenhill and Alistair Beaton, all of which will explore pressing political issues of the day.
Mixing new work with other works performed previously by the esteemed theatre company, a highlight of the evening will be the premiere of Olivier Award-winning playwright Hare’s Ayn Rand Takes A Stand, which will take audiences inside the mind of George Osborne.
Commenting on the forthcoming production, Out of Joint’s Artistic Director and the director of A View From Islington North Max Stafford-Clark said: “From Beyond The Fringe to Spitting Image to The Thick Of It, political satire has never really gone out of fashion, and continues to act as a pungent corrective to political pomposity and ambition. Over a few years Out of Joint has accumulated a number of short plays… It occurred to me then that we had the beginnings of a pertinent and provocative evening!”
Joseph Prowen and Kathryn O’Reilly will complete the cast while original music will come from musician and activist Billy Bragg.
A View From Islington North plays at the Arts Theatre from 18 May to 2 July.
