Sally Messham will star alongside Laura Rogers in Lyndsey Turner’s production of 19th century coming of age story Tipping The Velvet at the Lyric Hammersmith this autumn.
RADA graduate Messham will take on the role of Nancy Astley, whose life is changed when she meets the courageous music hall act Kitty Butler and follows her to London where unimaginable adventures await. The actress, who is soon to appear in ITV drama Midwinter Of The Spirit, will make her professional stage debut in the production.
As the object of her affections Kitty, Bad Girls and The Sins actress Rogers returns to the London stage following performances in productions including Masterpieces at the Royal Court, 55 Days at the Hampstead Theatre and The 39 Steps in the West End.
Sarah Waters’ acclaimed 1887-set tale, which has been adapted for the stage by Laura Wade, will run at the Hammersmith venue from 18 September to 24 October.
Directed by Turner, whose production of Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch is currently playing at the Barbican Theatre, Tipping The Velvet will open at the Lyric Hammersmith following the hugely successful run of Alan Parker’s musical Bugsy Malone.
