It wouldn’t take a mindreader to guess that Marc Salem might like to return to the Tricycle theatre for a fourth successive year this summer. Lo and behold, that is exactly what the psychologically fine-tuned professor is doing. His one-man show, Marc Salem – Mind Games Extra, plays at the Kilburn venue from 10-29 July.
Salem first visited the Tricycle in 2004 with his show Mind Games, in which he used his remarkable mental powers and psychological techniques to engage the audience in a series of mystifying mind games. He brought the one-man show back in 2005 and visited the venue again last year with a show entitled On Second Thoughts. This year’s instalment, Mind Games Extra, sees the quick-witted professor perform many of his well loved mind games, plus new material never seen before, all without the use of secret assistants, stooges or hidden electronics.
Salem has been a student of the human mind for over 30 years and is considered a leading expert on non-verbal communication, having worked on the faculties of several major universities for two decades. As a researcher he has travelled the world exploring the mind and its potential, and he was a director of research at Sesame Street, studying the development and nature of the mental process.
The celebrated mindreader may be having second thoughts about one particular mind game, however. During the press night performance of last year’s season the showman injured his hand with a knife after incorrectly reading the mind of an audience member.
