Artistic Director Josie Rourke’s revival of Bernard Shaw’s Saint Joan, starring Gemma Arterton as Joan of Arc, is to be broadcast live directly from the Donmar Warehouse in cinemas around the world, it has been announced.
Broadcast in partnership with National Theatre Live, audiences will be able to view Arterton’s portrayal of the iconic figure from cinemas on Thursday 16 February 2017, following the acclaimed successes of previous screened Donmar productions including Christopher Hampton’s Les Liaisons Dangereueses,and Coriolanus starring Tom Hiddleston, also both directed by Rourke.
Bernard Shaw’s classic play centres on the life and trial of a young country girl who represents one of the first Protestants and nationalists. Embarking on a bloody mission to drive the English from France, she comes to threaten the very fabric of feudal society and the Catholic Church across Europe.
