Sadler’s Wells’ annual Family Weekend will return this year on 3 and 4 April, bringing Easter treats aplenty with a packed line-up of performances and fun-filled activities.
The weekend will be led by two productions, the colourful Constelaciones and popular page-to-stage adaptation Varmints.
Acclaimed company Aracaladanza’s Constelaciones will play in the venue’s main house on 4 April, transporting audiences aged four and older to Spain’s warmer climes. Inspired by the work of Barcelona-born painter Joan Miró, the piece is described as a “cocktail of colours, shapes and games” that will invite the audience to explore the colourful world of the iconic painter.
Varmints, which plays on both days and is suitable for children from aged seven-years-old, returns to the venue following its popular premiere in 2013. Boasting an impressive line-up of creative minds behind it, including theatre director Sally Cookson, the production gives Helen Ward’s award-winning book about one small creature’s struggle to preserve a world in danger of being lost forever a fresh, hip hop twist.
Commenting on the importance of welcoming families through its doors, Sadler’s Wells’ Katy Arnander explained: “We feel it is really important to programme high quality work for children with the same care and thought that goes into programming work for adults. If children see a show they enjoy at a young age it inspires an interest in live performance and captures their imaginations, and hopefully also makes them feel that the theatre is somewhere they want to come back to.”
