As the General Election edges closer, The Ruling Class will stage a free Traf Extra debate exploring who holds the power in modern day Britain.
Acclaimed actor and The Ruling Class cast member Forbes Masson will be joined by journalists Rachel Johnson and Polly Toynbee, and author George Monbiot on Monday 30 March to discuss the distribution of power in Britain today.
The event, which is free everyone whether they’re seeing the show or not, will run from 18:00 to 18:45.
It is the latest in a series of Traf Extras regularly presented alongside the shows staged as part of Jamie Lloyd’s Trafalgar Transformed seasons.
The acclaimed director has always proclaimed that the shows he chooses to stage should be more than an evening of entertainment; they should spark debate and engage with topics, concerns and themes of the time.
Starring James McAvoy, who received an Olivier Award nomination for his central performance, The Ruling Class tells the story of Jack who, when his father is killed in an accident, inherits the title of the 14th Earl of Gurney. Eccentric to the cote, Jack is not entirely suited to high society life, so finds himself embroiled in a power struggle as his scheming family attempt to uphold their reputation.
When the show, which runs until 11 April, opened at the Trafalgar Studio 1 earlier this year, Official London Theatre’s Kate Stanbury described it as “yet another triumphant production [in] Jamie Lloyd’s unstoppable success”.
