Beneath The Dress, the hit Edinburgh Festival show of musical theatre star Frances Ruffelle, will transfer to London’s Garrick theatre for one night only on Sunday 12 September.
The one-woman show features stage star Ruffelle performing songs by Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and Kurl Weill alongside pieces by lesser known songwriters, supported by a funky six-piece band.
The daughter of stage school guru Sylvia Young, Ruffelle created the role of street urchin Eponine in Les Misérables when it opened in London 25 years ago, recreating the role for the musical’s Broadway transfer and winning a Tony Award for her performance. She was also in the original casts of musical s Starlight Express and Children Of Eden.
Away from the stage, Ruffelle represented Great Britain at the 1994 Eurovision Song contest, has played hugely popular gigs at Ronnie Scott’s with her big band, and will release a new solo album, Imperfectly Me, next month.
Ruffelle joins a list of stars performing concerts at the Garrick theatre this autumn, including former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter (17 & 18 September), Jason Robert Brown and Anika Noni Rose (24 and 25 September) and Caroline O’Connor (27 September to 3 October).
