Dennis Kelly’s new one-woman play Girls & Boys, which stars Carey Mulligan and follows an ordinary family whose lives begin to unravel, has extended its run at the Royal Court by an additional week.
With the Oscar-nominated and BAFTA Award-winning actress Mulligan (Jenny Mellor in An Education, 2009) starring in the exciting production, Girls & Boys will now run in the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre Downstairs from Thursday 8 February – Saturday 17 March 2018.
In Girls & Boys, an unexpected romance blossoms from a chance meeting at an airport, leading to an intense, head-over-heels relationship. Before long, the couple begin to settle down, buy a house, juggle careers, have kids, and form your typical ordinary family. But a sharp twist of fate causes their world to begin to crumble, and things take a disturbing turn for the worse.
And with direction from the Olivier Award-winning Lyndsey Turner (Chimerica, West End), and set design by Es Devlin, costume design by Jack Galloway, lighting design by Oliver Fenwick and sound design by David McSeveney, the news that additional performances of Girls & Boys are now scheduled will be warmly received by London theatregoers eager for tickets.
Mulligan is perhaps best known for her acclaimed star turn in An Education (2009), in which she played Jenny Mellor. She was also nominated for a Tony Award for Best Lead Actress in a Play for the 2015 Broadway revival of David Hare’s Skylight, which originally played at Wyndham’s Theatre in 2014.
Girls & Boys marks the first collaboration between writer Dennis Kelly (Matilda The Musical – West End) and director Lyndsey Turner.
