Francesca Annis, Ron Cook and Deborah Findley have been cast in Lucy Kirkwood’s new play The Children at the Royal Court.
In an exciting casting announcement, the trio will all be making an eagerly anticipated return to the Sloane Square venue this winter, adding the intriguing production to their heralded multi award-winning screen and stage careers.
Francesca, perhaps best known for her BAFTA-winning appearance in the hit ITV show Lillie, will be joined by Ron, whose recent turn in the Donmar Warehouse production of Brian Friel’s drama Faith Healer was widely lauded. The Olivier Award-winning Deborah most recently appeared at the venue in Caryl Churchill’s Escaped Alone, while the show will be directed by Royal Court favourite James Macdonald.
Penned by Lucy, whose political play Chimerica received the Olivier Award for Best New Play upon its West End transfer in 2013, The Children centres on two retired nuclear scientists who, cut off from the crumbling world around them in a cottage by the sea, plan to live forever on yogurt and yoga. But they are spurred into action by the arrival of an old friend, who has a terrifying request.
It follows the exciting Suzan-Lori Parks production Father Comes Home From The Wars (Parts 1, 2 & 3), which plays at the venue until 22 October.
The Children runs at the Royal Court Jerwood Theatre from 17 November to 14 January 2017; you can book your tickets through us here.
